About Us

ARALU ( Society for Socio Economic Development)

Our NGO's work is crucial in tackling child protection, women’s safety, education, and supporting marginalized communities, fostering lasting positive change.

ARALU, founded in 1993 and registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, focuses on raising awareness and addressing critical issues in our community. Key areas include combating the rise in rape and sexual abuse of girls and women, tackling child trafficking, reducing child labor, and ensuring out-of-school children gain access to education. We also work to bridge the gap in government support for underserved communities and promote awareness of the Right to Education (RTE) among PRI and SDMC members.

Programs

Life Skill Training Program

The life skill training program for women in the Bidar district aims to empower participants across all villages with essential skills for daily living and personal development. This initiative focuses on enhancing self-esteem, decision-making, and communication skills, equipping women to tackle challenges effectively. Through interactive workshops and practical sessions, the program fosters a supportive environment for learning and growth. By building these vital skills, we aim to create a positive impact on the lives of women in the community, promoting their independence and confidence.

Women Empowerment Program

We are dedicated to empowering women in the Bidar district through comprehensive skill development and livelihood initiatives. Our programs focus on providing practical training that enhances employability and fosters self-sufficiency. By equipping women with essential skills, we aim to open doors to new opportunities and improve their economic status. Additionally, we create a supportive network that encourages collaboration and growth among participants. An orientation on personal health and hygiene was conducted for Kishore club members at Zhamistanpur village. CWC chairman Smt. Rajya Balbatti participated as a resource person, sharing valuable insights on maintaining health and hygiene. Six Kishoris from the Yernalli cluster have enrolled in computer training at Don Bosco. Father's program

Under the Safe Village Program, a special Father's Program was conducted to raise awareness on critical child protection issues. The program focused on educating fathers about the dangers of child trafficking, providing them with information on how to recognize and prevent such threats. Participants were also informed about the Child Line helpline number, empowering them to take immediate action if they suspect a child is in danger. In addition, the session highlighted the importance of being a responsible and supportive father, emphasizing the role fathers play in their children's emotional and physical development. The program strongly advocated, saying no to child marriage, encouraging fathers to protect their children's right to a healthy, educational, and fulfilling childhood. The goal was to create a supportive network of fathers who are actively engaged in safeguarding the well-being of their children and making informed decisions to secure their future.

A Family Clubs meeting was organized where parents and caregivers were given an orientation on the importance of supporting their children's's education,, and the detrimental effects of child marriage and child labor. The session emphasized the critical role that families play in ensuring their children have access to education and a safe, healthy upbringing. Parents were encouraged to take responsibility for protecting their children from harmful practices like child marriage and labor, and to actively promote their children's well-being by providing a nurturing environment for learning and growth. The meeting aimed to foster greater community awareness and parental responsibility in safeguarding children's rights and future prospects.

Conducting the children clubs meetings

A Children’s Club meeting was conducted where an orientation was provided on the importance of child rights, the significance of education, and the harmful effects of child labor and child marriage. The session aimed to raise awareness among children about their rights, the value of education in shaping their future, and the serious consequences of child labor, and early marriage. In addition to the educational session, a dry ration kit was distributed to 30 children, supported by Ash for Education US, to help support their families with essential supplies. This initiative not only empowered the children with knowledge but also provided them with immediate relief to improve their living conditions.

Safe village program

The Safe Village Program was conducted at the village level with the support of Her Choices Foundation, Hyderabad. During the program, an orientation was provided to both schoolchildren and community members on critical issues such as child trafficking, child marriage, and safe touch vs. unsafe touch. The session aimed to raise awareness about the risks associated with these harmful practices and empower children with the knowledge to protect themselves. To make the information more accessible and engaging, comic books and pamphlets were distributed to the schoolchildren and community members, offering clear, easy to understand messages about personal safety, recognizing dangerous situations, and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior. The program emphasized creating a safer environment for children and encouraged parents and community leaders to take active steps in preventing child exploitation and abuse.

Movement leaders meeting

A Movement leaders training meeting was conducted to discuss the status of child marriage in local villages and the various government schemes available. Many families were unaware of how to access these benefits and where to apply. Following the meeting, a total of 25 family members successfully accessed government schemes, including Swachh Bharat and Bhagyalakshmi. This initiative aims to empower community leaders with the knowledge needed to improve the lives of families in their villages.

A district-level meeting was organized with government stakeholders at Yadgir District to address the pressing issue of child marriage. The discussions focused on the current status of child marriage in the district and the support available for those affected. Participants also explored strategies for the government to prevent child marriage and child labor, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with NGOs. This initiative aims to strengthen community efforts and create effective policies to protect children and promote their rights.

Spouse meeting

A meeting was conducted for early married husbands to raise awareness about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Maternal and Child Health (MCH). During the session, participants engaged in discussions about the negative effects of child marriage. The initiative aimed to educate spouses on their roles and responsibilities, promoting healthier family dynamics and informed decision-making. By fostering open dialogue, we strive to empower these men to support their partners and children effectively.

Formation of self help groups

Early married girls often face significant challenges in their lives, including difficulties in managing their finances and saving for emergencies. To address this issue, we established 45 Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the IMAGE and IMAGE-NEXT projects, involving a total of 365 early married girls. These groups provide a supportive network for members to share experiences and resources. Additionally, training on SHG bookkeeping was offered to equip participants with essential financial management skills, helping them to better navigate their economic situations.

Capacity building training

Capacity-building training for early married girls and survivors was conducted by Gowri, with a total of 45 participants involved. The training focused on equipping them with essential skills such as tailoring, embroidery, beautician techniques, and computer literacy. Additionally, the program aimed to build their self-confidence, encouraging active participation in community activities. Participants were also provided with awareness regarding child marriage issues, empowering them to make informed choices for their future.

Gender-based violence rally

A rally on Gender-Based Violence was conducted at Kangankote School in Bidar taluka. A total of 103 students and 5 teachers participated in the event, raising awareness about this critical issue. During the rally, IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials were distributed to enhance understanding and promote prevention. This initiative aimed to empower students with knowledge and encourage them to take a stand against gender-based violence.

Asha workers meeting

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen community support and ensure the well-being of our beneficiaries, we have identified 20 ASHA workers as changemakers to support field-level initiatives. These ASHA workers will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between health services and the community. To ensure effective coordination and track progress, we will conduct monthly meetings with these changemakers. During these meetings, we will assess the fieldwork, provide updates on health schemes, address challenges, and offer guidance to ensure that beneficiaries are availing themselves of all available health benefits. This initiative aims to empower the ASHA workers, enhance their capacity to support the community, and ensure that the health and welfare of the beneficiaries are consistently monitored and improved.

We distributed nutritional food to support pregnant women, early married girls, and lactating mothers, ensuring they receive the essential nourishment they need. A total of 32 beneficiaries received this vital support, aimed at promoting better health and well-being within the community. This initiative underscores our commitment to improving maternal and child nutrition, fostering healthier futures for families.

Safe village program

The Safe Village Program was conducted in Kanaji, Tq. and Dist. Bidar, where an orientation session was held to raise awareness about child trafficking and child abuse. The program focused on educating both children and adults about the dangers of trafficking, signs of abuse, and how to protect children from harm. Interactive discussions were held, and community members were encouraged to stay vigilant and take preventive measures. To engage children, comic books with colorful illustrations and safety messages were distributed, teaching them how to recognize unsafe situations and report them. This initiative aimed to empower the community with knowledge and tools to create a safer environment for children.

Rangoli activity for COVID-19 awareness

A Rangoli activity was conducted to raise awareness about COVID-19, engaging the creativity of the participants. A total of 28 children took part in this colorful event, using their artistic skills to convey important health messages. Through this initiative, we aimed to educate children about safety measures while encouraging them to express themselves creatively.

Running a pre-primary center for children

We are operating a pre-primary center for children aged 4 to 6 years from the daily labor community, encouraging them to learn letters, sleep, sing, and play while they wait for their parents to return from work. Our program aims to provide a nurturing environment that fosters early learning and development. After reaching the age of 4, we facilitate their enrollment in government schools to ensure a smooth transition to formal education. Currently, 30 children are benefiting from our pre-primary center, helping to lay a strong foundation for their future learning.

Declaration of child labor-free schools

ARALU has been actively working for the past three years to establish child labor-free schools. This initiative includes enrolling dropout children and raising awareness within the community. Additionally, training has been provided to School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMC) and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to effectively address child labor issues. Through these efforts, ARALU aims to create a safer and more supportive educational environment for all children.

A street theater program was organized in Mandaknalli, Kongankote, Kamthana, Kadwad villages, and two government high schools to raise awareness about the negative effects of child marriage and child labor. The program achieved great success, contributing to the betterment of society. Each initiative aimed at social development effectively reached the community, fostering a deeper understanding of these critical issues.

An awareness campaign was conducted in the community to encourage the enrollment of children in government schools. This initiative involved a march (Jatha) that included children, government school teachers, local youth, and ARALU volunteers. Running residential Belaku home for the orphan and poor children

Aralu is providing the residential facility, like the place for staying, food, daily necessities, education material and for health. And daily tuition classes to fill the gap for poor children.14 girls and 6 boys are benefiting by these facilities.
